Legacy Beef 80.10.10: Our Most Popular Starter Blend

If you're new to raw feeding and trying to figure out where to start, you're not the only one. Legacy Beef 80.10.10 with Organ & Bone is the blend most new customers reach for first, and it's earned a 4.9 out of 5 average across 285 verified buyer reviews.

We've covered what the 80/10/10 ratio means in general in an earlier post and walked through getting started in our beginner's guide. This one is about the blend itself: what's in it, and what customers say after feeding it.

What's in Legacy Beef 80.10.10

  • 78% raw muscle beef
  • 10% ground beef bone
  • 5% liver
  • 2.5% spleen
  • 2.5% kidney
  • 2% heart

No tripe. That makes it milder in smell than our BLT blends and one reason it's an easier entry point for dogs (and owners) making the switch from kibble.

Why it's the blend most new raw feeders start with

The 80/10/10 ratio is the standard prey-model framework raw feeders have used for years: roughly 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organ. Legacy Beef 80.10.10 follows that ratio closely, with a hand-crafted organ mix of liver, spleen, and kidney combined with marrow-filled ground bone.

It's not our only starter option, just the one most new customers try first. It's simple, with one texture to get used to. Your dog still gets a full organ variety, just without the added tripe some dogs (and some noses) need time to adjust to.

How to feed it

Feed 2 to 4% of your dog's body weight daily, split into two meals for adults (more frequent, smaller meals for puppies). Active or working dogs typically sit at the higher end of that range. Thaw sleeves in the refrigerator about 24 hours before feeding. Our feeding guide has the full breakdown by weight.

Legacy Beef 80.10.10 ships frozen, Mondays only, in an insulated cooler. It's also available as a freeze-dried option in the same formula if you want something shelf-stable for travel or as a topper.

Is it right for your dog?

It's a strong fit if you're new to raw, or want a simple formula without added tripe. It also works well in a rotation.

If you have a small breed or a young dog that doesn't have its adult teeth yet, Legacy Cat Blend may be the better place to start. It's finely ground, so you get the same bone and bone marrow, just without the pieces of bone, which suits smaller mouths.

If your dog needs a single AAFCO-formulated complete meal with no additional supplementation, Legacy PLUS is the one blend in our lineup that carries the "Complete & Balanced" label. If your dog runs hot and active, our High Energy blend is built for that calorie need. We're happy to help you figure out which one fits, just reach out.

Common questions

Is Legacy Beef 80.10.10 good for dogs new to raw feeding?

Yes. It's the blend we recommend most often as a first bowl because of its simple, no-tripe formula and standard prey-model ratio.

How is it different from Legacy BLT + Ground Bone?

BLT + Ground Bone adds tripe to the mix, which some raw feeders prefer for the added digestive enzymes and nutrient variety. Legacy Beef 80.10.10 keeps it simpler, without tripe.

What should I feed a small breed or a puppy without adult teeth?

Legacy Cat Blend is our finely ground option. It has the same bone and bone marrow as our other blends, without the pieces of bone, so it's a good first step for smaller mouths.

What sizes does it come in?

Legacy Beef 80.10.10 comes in 2lb and 5lb sleeves.
